BF ADVENTURE

Volunteers needed who can offer one day a week to work alongside our instructors. Can you help to support children and young people with challenging backgrounds achieve and develop positive life skills, through activities such as climbing, canoeing, archery, survival skills, creative sessions, environmental work and cooking.

CORNWALL LIBRARIES - Young Library Volunteers

Volunteers are wanted countywide to take part in the two programs that they have on offer, one program is the Summer Reading Challenge, this entails helping children aged 4 – 11 to select books and talk to them about what they have read, distribute rewards – bookmarks, stickers and games – and record progress, There is also the Home Library Service, this service is about improving the quality of life to housebound readers by selecting books on behalf of the people who are unable to attend a library in person and/or deliver to their home.

Opportunities are ongoing.

BODMIN FUTURES

IT Training: young to old - bridging the gap.
This involves 1-to-1 tuition, Young volunteers needed to support and develop activities and everyday IT applications for older members of the community. Daytime opportunities available from Monday to Friday. The different activities are as follows; computers, technology and website design, mentoring, teaching, training and coaching. All that is required is good interpersonal communication skills.

GREENPEACE

Greenpeace are looking for volunteers to help with environment issues and help make a difference, you will have the chance to attend exciting events where you will learn about Greenpeace campaigns, meet other volunteers and campaign on a variety of issues, and Local groups will primarily be involved with street campaigning and occasional lobbying of MPs. The types of activities they have include Administration, music and national and international events. Travel expenses can be reimbursed.

PLATFORM 2 - Overseas Volunteer

Platforms 2 are looking for volunteers aged 18-25 to take part in their community volunteer projects. Volunteers will be sent overseas to developing countries on 10 week placements to help with these projects. Activities range from advice, information and support, campaigning and lobbying, caring, community work, gardening, general and helping, languages, local events, marketing, PR and media, mentoring, national and international events, practical work and DIY, sports development, teaching, training and coaching and youth work. No payment is required as it is government funded. Volunteers will stay with local families within the village community.

SURFERS AGAINST SEWAGE - Administrator

SAS are looking for an administrator to help with labelling and filling envelopes for the quarterly newsletter Pipeline. Volunteers will be given on the job training along with support from a supervisor from day to day. The placement will be St Agnes; SAS are willing to make contributions towards travel expenses.

 FREEDOM SURF

Freedom Surf have opportunities for Surfing Assistants

Volunteers will be based at Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall – the capital of European surfing. Under the supervision of professional surfers, they will provide hands-on support for people with disabilities both in and out of the water. All volunteers will get practical experience of working with disabled people, including helping with access on and off the beach, wheelchair transfers and work in the water helping them surf.

Reserve Work Party, Breney Common Reserve near Helman Tor SX053 613

Spring Birdwatch Luxulyan Valley

A morning birding in the beautiful wooded Luxulyan Valley with local bird expert Sid Cole to look for arriving and locally breeding birds. Rosenannon Bog Work Party, Rosenannon, St Wenn

Meet outside the Sunday School, Rosenannon, SW955 661. Following on from last years successful work day here, come and join in with a good old fashioned scrub clearance task. We’ll have a nice bonfire, great for cooking spuds on, and clear invasive willow and birch which is threatening this valuable wet grassland habitat.  SENSORY TRUST

Sensory Trust has opportunities in their Creative Spaces Project

Volunteers will be based at a residential care home in St Austell.
Creative Spaces is about bringing people together, both young and old, to make living in a community more enjoyable by providing outdoor environments where people can share activities, celebrations and annual events. The main goal of the project will be to help in the redevelopment of the care home’s garden, as it is currently looking dull and uninspiring. Volunteers will need to get creative, doing activities with the residents and the staff, to help redesign the garden so that its interesting, exciting and able to offer more space for community events. Volunteers will also help to monitor and evaluate the project by interviewing people and recording their stories and wishes using audio/visual tools.

Opportunities start from December 2009 until December 2010

 THE COMMUNITY LIBRARY PROJECT

The Community Library Project has opportunities available in their Youth Sub Group.

Volunteers will be based in Truro Library. Volunteers will attend an informal meeting once every 2 months for six months. The purpose of these meetings being to discuss the development of the Truro library as an attractive, well used, young person friendly resource. Points, ideas, concerns or questions that arise from the sub group will be reported by the youth members to the community engagement officer, who will work with the youth members to present that information to the full management board at their quarterly meetings.

Opportunities start from 9th January 2010 until 10th July 2010

 DOWN TO EARTH FOUNDATION

Down to Earth Foundation have opportunities in several departments, including; Tree planting and Pruning, Plants husbandry and Pest control, Harvesting and Processing, Composting, Construction, Fundraising and Administration.

Volunteers will be based in Porthtowan.
Down to Earth Foundation is a non-profit organisation who aims to provide opportunities for community groups and individuals of all ages to learn about sustainable building techniques, crafts and renewable technologies. Activities will be distributed based on individual reference (which may be dependant on skills & experience) but if any training is required, the team leader can provide, Volunteers will mainly help in Fundraising, Gardening and training, teaching and coaching.

Opportunities start from the 3rd November 2009 and will be ongoing until advertised otherwise.

 SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN BOARD (LSCB)

LSCB has opportunities in their Young Peoples Sub Group.

Volunteers will be based wherever is suitable for them, as there is many offices or event venues throughout Cornwall. A sub group is being created, who can tell them what they need to do to meet the needs of children and young people throughout Cornwall. They will have the chance to listen in on current events and maybe attend local events, to tell them what you think and to have a say about how the council run their safeguarding children board. Opportunities start from January 2010 until July 2010
